Methods for Searching for Inventory Items
The normal and best way to find an inventory item is by the part.
All programs on the market can do this. However, Windward System
Five will also let you search by other methods such as Supplier's
Part Number, or the description, or just part of the description.
If you're searching for things by size such as clothing, shoes or
tires, you can use the size fields to perform a lookup. And one
of the most powerful searches is to enter several different fields
and only find those records that match all the critera.
You can attach not just one, but many barcode numbers to each item
and search by any one of them. Of course, you might ask why you'd
want more than one barcode number per item. We wonder that too,
but manufacturers sometimes change the barcode for the same item
and we have no control over that.
If you are completely lost, you can search by main category, then
sub category and then through the parts within the sub category.
This is beneficial for searching for an item to reorder because
it has run out of stock, so you've lost the part number or barcode
number.
