Windward
System Five is a fully integrated point-of-sale software package that
helps run your small engine sales and service store instead of just
reporting on it.
The small engine sales and service business is different than the
automotive business. That seems obvious to anyone in the business,
yet many businesses try to install software specifically designed
for other industries and then have many problems and frustrations.
The
small engine business is tricky, mostly because it is comprised of
two different types of business in one. In some cases, you will be
dealing with selling inventory over the counter, and at other times,
dealing with repairs on your customer's vehicles, open work orders
and mechanics.

While Windward System
Five has many features that make it an exceptional program, the following
are some of the features that are used by a small engine shop:
Environment Levies
In several states, the government now levies additional flat taxes
for tires and/or batteries. Instead of having to remember to "sell"
a tax item, the items can be flagged as tire taxable, or battery taxable,
and these environment taxes will appear on a separate line below the
sub total on the invoice and be included in the grand total.
Streamlined Estimates
For simplicity, estimates are entered in exactly the same way as regular
invoices and work orders. This reduces the learning time for staff
using the system. While an estimate looks very similar to an invoice
or work order, it will not effect inventory on hand, customer balances,
or any general ledger account.
Track Labour and Mechanics
When labour is added to an invoice, you can specify the mechanic that
performed the work, the number of hours worked, and the number of
hours (or mins) billed. Often, the time spent and the time billed
might be different, and by gathering this information, you will be
able to produce mechanic productivity reports.

Detailed Comments on Invoice
We have several different types of comments, depending upon the
usage. The most common type is attaching a comment to a labour sale,
detailing to the customer the work that was done, or other problems
found that should be addressed in the future. Add private comments
to the invoice that will not print on the customer's copy, but will
give you some additional information about the job or service.
Supplier's Parts Support
Don't clutter your inventory system with hundreds of thousands of
parts you don't use or need.
If the supplier or manufacturer has given you a disk with a list
of part numbers, descriptions, cost prices and suggested list price,
this information can be added into our auxiliary database and be
available for you to search at all times. If you are searching for
a part and it's not in your stock, but is found in the auxiliary
database, you can quickly "drag" it over and add it to
your system without having to retype all the information.
Track Materials for Service Work
The Windward System Five supports many different types of kits,
also known as bill of materials, assemblies, or jobs. You could,
for example, create a minor tune-up kit that when placed on the
invoice will "explode" to show the oil, oil filter, air
filter, spark plugs, and mechanics labour, complete with a comment.
The Windward System will maintain a detailed history, not just for
each customer, but for each vehicle owned. This is especially important
for commercial customers that have fleets of vehicles.
Tire Inventory Module
Designed especially for tires, the system allows you to enter the
tire size, aspect ratio, and rim size into separate fields on the
inventory record, and then also be able to search on those parameters.
Built to Last
After 19 years in the business, and servicing numerous automotive
service businesses, we know that no two businesses are alike. We've
seen many businesses make the wrong software purchase because a
package had worked in another automotive service shop. Let us customize
our software for your specific business.
